54% of total Pakistani population is connected to the internet of which 66% of internet users are based in urban areas while 47% belong to rural areas. The number of rural women connected to internet is further low.
In modern world where internet plays a significant role in almost all aspects of life, rural women are lagging behind due to their inability to access the universe of information consequently, not getting advantages of E-commerce, online education, health information and social networks.
Through this initiative, Google Inc. aims to enable rural women reap the benefits of the modern internet technology by promoting and improving digital internet literacy for youth and rural women. The project will provide rural women with basic skills and techniques to access the unlimited information resources available on the internet. National Rural Support Programme is tasked to extend its expertise to train the rural women trainers, who will further impart this knowledge to the fellow women in their villages. The contents are localized so that the understanding and effectiveness could be enhanced.
